those cinnamon and sweet orange candles, embrace all things winter, and join us for a reading of

none other than the Communist Manifesto by Frederick Engels and Karl Marx. So, guys, do we want to do an intro to this text before we start with the reading?

Communist Manifesto is published in 1848.

February 1848, it just precedes a big outbreak of revolutions, 1848 revolutions that sweep across Europe.

It's probably written in 1847 then.

And just to give you some context,

it's written by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels,

you may have heard of them.

At that time, Marx is something like 29,

when they're writing this,

and Engels is 26 years old, no, 27 years old, something like that. So they're writing this and Engels is 26 years old, no 27 years old, something like that.

So they're relatively young.

They get commissioned to write the manifesto by the Communist League, which is a pretty small group, I think.

Primarily had sort of emerged out of the League of the Just, which is a much more sort of

conspiratorial sort of group, led by Vightling. And they sort of took it over. They changed
