Summary
"Policy is outpacing compassion and enforcement is starting to replace discernment." Immigration isn’t just a political issue, it's a moral one.
Last week we sat in the moment of what is happening with immigration enforcement in our nation. In this chat, we're taking it a step further by answering the question of, "What can we do about it?"
We're not talking about policy or even politics but we can each do to restore humanity and take action without burning out.
We're chatting about:
- How fear-based messaging is shaping immigration debates
- Why dehumanizing language is dangerous for our kids and our culture
- What every American should understand about due process rights
- How local communities can create change when national politics feel impossible
- How we as parents can teach empathy, courage, and civic responsibility right now
If you’ve felt powerless watching the news…
If you’ve wondered how to help without becoming exhausted or overwhelmed…
If you want to raise kids who care about justice and humanity…
This episode will give you clarity, hope, and practical next steps.
Because change doesn’t come from outrage alone... it comes from people who choose compassion and act consistently.

| 0:00.0 | The following podcast is a Dear Media production. |
| 0:07.2 | Welcome to the Tell Me More podcast with Nicole Walters, the only podcast where I'm not seeking to make you think more like me, but to help you keep thinking for yourself. |
| 0:25.9 | Okay. for yourself. Hey, y'all. |
| 0:26.8 | So if you are back for part two, I know that, you know, last week, kind of in the thick |
| 0:32.2 | of it all, you know, you got to hear a chat about kind of where we are coming off of a pretty tumultuous |
| 0:39.3 | weekend in Minnesota, a week that has felt even crazier, and probably a month that feels like |
| 0:44.5 | something we've never seen before. And I want to let you know that, as always, even if I'm putting |
| 0:50.2 | into context and with clarity, some of the situations we are in right now, it's my hope |
| 0:55.4 | that in this chat, we are getting practical, right? Because I do want to bring back the hope |
| 1:02.3 | because I do have it. I have to. I got too many damn kids. So in this chat, I want to talk about |
| 1:08.1 | what can we do, you know? But I did want to put some space between the two conversations to allow us to honor the grief that's required exactly what I talked about last time. Sometimes we just need to sit in the space of awareness of what is happening to us and what do we believe in. It's the why behind the what. So we know why we need to do something. So let's |
| 1:29.5 | talk about what we're going to do. Now, in last week's chat, we talked a lot about grief, |
| 1:34.7 | about violence, about immigration policy. You heard me get a little spicy Nicole, follow me for |
| 1:40.2 | more on threads. You know, and the moral line that it really feels like we're crossing as a |
| 1:45.2 | nation. And I want to let you know today is different, right? One of my really good friends, |
| 1:50.2 | Seth Godin, I spoke to him soon after I had Josie and I said, Seth, like, I am filled with |
| 1:57.0 | possibility, right? There's so much I want to do in this world. There's so much I feel good about |
| 2:00.9 | and excited about. But my God, postpartum, it is hard. And I look outside and I'm more nervous about this world. And I just feel overwhelmed because I don't know what to do. And Seth looked at me in his very Seth Godin way. And if you were to listen to this, he would know exactly what I mean when I say. He has like Godinesque behaviors, you know, and he said, you can only do what you have personal agency over. And I'm like, I just told you all these fills and you're going to give me one sentence. But, you know, I've been holding on to it, you know, since this conversation because it's true, you know. And so today we're going to talk about agency. You can only do what's in front of you, the next right thing. And, you know, and also because I know that outrage without action, it just turns into despair. You know, and I think some of us may be feeling that or witnessing it. You know, people who just feel like they're online and they're enraged and rage and raged all the time. But then it just kind of gets into a, you know, |
| 2:54.0 | there's nothing we can do. It's too far gone. Or even those thoughts kind of seep into your head. |
| 2:59.4 | You know, if you're of the generation, we're cooked, you know. And I want to let you know, |
| 3:03.8 | I don't believe that. I don't. We're American, okay, despair is not a strategy |
| 3:08.1 | and being cooked. Okay, that's not our style, right? That's not what we do. And, you know, |
