This is hell.

Behind every great fortune lies a great crime because this is hell, which is yet another

tagline we used to introduce last week's guest who demanded we abolish sheriffs.

But the great fortune being made off the exploitation of others we are talking about today

is the rent landlords make off tenants, the vast wealth made by developers who organize cities

to their own whims, the realtors who segregate for profit, and the landowners whose actions

can mean the life or death of a business and the families

whose lost jobs are directly affected. Then there's the real suffering and pain, as we will

discuss. The shame, something that's come up a lot recently on the show, of in this case being

unhoused, which means being increasingly policed and today increasingly criminalized.

Here to help us consider the abolition, the abolition this time of rent, writer and organizer,

Tracy Rosenthal, joins us to discuss their new book, Abolish Rent, How Tenants Can End the Housing Crisis,

which Tracy co-wrote with Leonardo Vilchus.

They are also co-founders of the Los Angeles Tenants Collective.
