Back in the early days of the United States, when people were moving to the west and discovering empty lands to harvest and purchase property to live in, everything seemed to be an adventure on its own.

If you were going to migrate toward new and distant lands, you needed that explorer spirit.

Still, people began to group together and form towns and communities wherever they saw potential.

Though some of these settlements turned into the big and small cities and towns we know today,

many of them found their death on the timelines of civilization.

Some were driven by greenery and farming potential, while others were built around extracting

precious metals from the earth, some with silver and gold.

But where there's silver, there's money. Where there's money, there's greed. And when there's

greed, there's murder. But this isn't the typical death-filled ghost town.

Here we have history with residents who call the place home and refuse to leave, even after death.

Let's explore the Calico Ghost Town in California.

California is also known as the Golden State and for a reason.

Perhaps the best combination on the way that its residents describe the sunsets,

as well as a final destination of miners and pioneers,

who came to the Golden State, joining the Gold Rush.

And even though you might imagine California has a place with only sunny beaches in modern cities,

California has also a lot more to offer than most people are aware of.

It is made up of a part of a valley with nothing but dry desert for hundreds of miles,

than national parks with forests, as well as snowy mountains. With so much life, you'd hardly think that it also serves as a home to Death Valley, one of the hottest places on Earth.

But if we travel through the Mojave Desert, we will find the town of Calico.

Back in the 1880s, it grew in population and housed around 3,500 people, 10 years after it sprouted.
