For people who've listened to this podcast for years, I made a decision when I started

becoming a screenwriter when I decided to write, and when I was in the music bar, I don't

know if you know, I was in the music business for a long time, and what happened was I started

becoming competitive and hated, music was everything I cared about, and then I got really competitive

and I realized I was no longer a fan of this thing that I loved, and when I started

book, you know, writing the first screenplay, I actually consciously wrote down for myself,

stay a fan, and the rewards of staying a fan are so great, and I am just an unabashed fan

of yours.

Your work has meant a tremendous amount to me, and so I really appreciate the opportunity

to talk today.

So my guest today is Aaron Sorkin, certainly one of the great screenwriters, whoever picked

up a pen, and also a director, and a producer, and a playwright, here's a, I have a couple

of ideas about how to frame this conversation, and I'm going to do it in a bit of an Aaron

Sorkin way in a little while, but first, I've heard your story about discovering that you

were a writer, and you've told it a lot, so I don't want to tell the whole thing here,

but did you know before the moment that you were alone in that apartment and other people

were out and you had nothing to do?
