So it's been a year since Smalg the Dragon came to the dwarf kingdom of Arebor,

the land of our forefathers who brought forth upon this continent a great nation.

It's a year since Smalg took up residence here, darkening the skies of liberty,

desecrating the truth, confiscating the gold of the great dwarves and infecting

otherwise sound brains so virulently that they mix metaphors and confuse reference sets.

Anyway, it's a year since the desolation a year since Election Day.

Through the year, we the people, but also we as individuals, have struggled with how to talk

about, think about and write about this president, this sea change in the polity,

and in our nation and even in America's place among nations.

Is it a time to think world historically, geopolitically? Is it a time for zen?

Or is it a time to tend to every single bee sting and cobra bite inflicted on us by the

spirited president and the media and social media coverage of our times?

Slate this week approached this question in an inventive and,
