2016, David Cameron took a decision that was designed to free the Conservative Party from decades of infighting and into Nissan warfare over the membership of the European Union. Remember that?

It was good, wasn't it? That went well. Never hear about it anymore. All of that done and

dusted. Sionara. The world has turned. We've all moved on. Everything's going swimmingly. I've

taken back control. All that money for the NHS. Cheaper food. No effect at all upon our freedom of movement or travel. Absolutely nobody was

talking about leaving the single market. Wealthier, freer, all that sovereignty, more sovereignty

they can eat, two scoops of sovereignty with every cornet available in every ice cream van in the

country, everything going absolutely magnificently.

Boris Johnson turned out not to be a massive lying obscenity and instead turned out to be telling

the truth all along. There's no checks on the border going into Ireland. Absolutely no tension

at all between the Good Friday Agreement and the

decision to leave the single market and the customs union.

I mean, it's just been magnificent.

There is no humble pie big enough for people like me to munch on on a morning like this,

because all of our predictions have come to naught.

Everything that Project Fear warned about has turned out to be a great big balloon of nonsense.

And I don't think we ever need to talk about it again.

We never need to mention the B word or the European Union again.

God, how does that reach your ears if you're still clinging to the carcass?

Just out of interest.

Because, I mean, even those of us who are somewhat dismayed by your stupidity, by the consequences of what you've done, at least we can see the funny side.
