Summary

I went down a rabbit hole of research to find out how some people have taken Jesus' teaching on divorce to mean the opposite of what it seems like He was saying. The issue is whether there is a special definition of "put away" as compared to "writ of divorce". On this peculiar view "put away" is taken to mean "send away a spouse without a divorce certificate", which means that if you are "put away" you are still married. On the other hand, "writ of divorce" (or certificate of divorce) is taken to refer to an actual divorce with a divorce paper. Here's why this view is wrong. 0:00.0	Now this particular question put me down a rabbit hole of research and it's going to take a second to explain it but basically this question is giving us a new paradigm an alternate paradigm for understanding Jesus' phrasing and words and teaching on divorce and remarriage.

0:24.0	approval of large numbers of divorces and they reinterpret Jesus's words to
0:29.2	basically saying the opposite of what you think he's saying. You think he's saying don't get divorced.
0:33.8	What he's actually saying is actually get fully divorced, don't just separate without a divorce.
0:39.5	And let me take you to the question. This question is from James, And yeah, there are a significant number of people, especially online who have this view.
0:46.0	So James says, Mike, can you discuss the argument of putting away versus writ of divorce?
0:51.0	God, and here he presents the argument, God hates the putting away,
0:56.6	which prevents one from remarrying and places them into further bondage because they can't move

1:41.1	for scholarly commentary at a look know, show me someone who doesn't, isn't just making a website on their own that's promoting this view like show me someone who's like a theologian or they have some kind of scholastic kind of credentials
