Summary

In this episode, Bill and National Security Analyst Joe Cirincione discuss a historic meeting at the White House with multiple world leaders uninvitedly uniting to support Ukrainian President Zelensky and sway President Trump to maintain the alliance commitments to Ukraine. The episode delves into the strategic maneuvering used by European leaders to manipulate Trump through flattery and offers, highlighting how these tactics have momentarily shored up Western support for Ukraine. The discussion extends to the implications of potential US troop involvement, and the complexities surrounding the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO. Plus a brutal assessment of the Putin's Alaska Summit with Trump. Additionally, the episode touches on other geopolitical hot spots, notably the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the potential shift in public and political sentiment against Netanyahu's aggressive Gaza strategy. Finally, the conversation veers into the enduring threat of nuclear weapons, recommending Annie Jacobson's book 'Nuclear War: A Scenario' as a gripping read on the subject.

Today Bill highlights the work of The Ploughshares, an organization committed to eliminating the threat of nuclear weapons. More information at Ploughshares.org

You know, we don't often talk foreign policy here on the Bill Press Pod. Most of the time, we're talking politics.

But with two back-to-back hastily called summits in the last few days,

0:24.6

politics is all about foreign policy. First, there was that embarrassing summit in Alaska where it

appears President Trump accomplished nothing more than giving Vladimir Putin yet one more opportunity

to make a fool of him.

Then, that historic summit at the White House on Monday, where President Zelensky brought

every major Western European leader with him to confront Donald Trump and hopefully

0:51.3

convince Trump that what Putin wants is wrong and that surrendering to Putin is no way to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

1:00.7

So now, with two World Summits in four days behind us, the big question is, what exactly was accomplished, if anything, is the end of Putin's war on Ukraine drawn any closer?

1:15.1

We're going to examine that question today with our own foreign policy guru, Joe Sirencioni,

1:20.3

national security expert, author, and former head of Plaus shares, our member of the board

1:25.4

of directors of the Center for International Policy.

1:28.5

Hello, Joe. My Italian professor would be very angry at me if I didn't at least introduce you

one time as Joe Chinchionnet. That's exactly right. Chirinchencone. That's the way you say it in

1:42.4

Italy. Welcome back to the Bill Presspot. Joe. It's always good to talk to you. So whatever happened, you've got to admit history was made today, right? Have we ever seen such a meeting of world leaders at the White House at the same time? No, I don't think we've ever seen a meeting like the one that took place on Monday.

2:04.2

That many leaders coming, basically uninvited.

2:08.6

They insisted on coming to back up Zelensky and all for the express purpose, shoring up

2:16.5

the president of the United States to try to convince him to stay the course and to maintain the alliance commitments to the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and not to bend to the will of Vladimir Putin.

2:30.4

That has never happened in U.S. history.

2:33.2

So, Linsky, it was like he brought his posse with him, right? And what was, didn't that,

their very present, sent a very strong message? Absolutely. I thought the Europeans handled this
