The midterm elections are months away, but they're already the focus of attention for both Republicans and Democrats.

The most recent polling across more than a dozen polling firms shows Americans favoring Democrats by anywhere from a plus one to a plus nine point margin.

President Trump's approval ratings continue to drop down to 39 percent according to a new ABC news poll. That means

60 percent of Americans polled by ABC disapprove of the president, leading to a net negative

rating for President Trump of negative 21 points. Now, polls are merely a snapshot of a moment

in time. So the midterms are nine months away,

meaning obviously everything could change between now and then.

But numbers and national sentiment are worrying enough for Republicans

that they're speaking openly about their plans for the midterms.
