Summary

A New England story about an old woman with no money and no support who steals a parcel of toys from the town store to make sure the little ones now in her care have presents. Her neighbor across the street has everything she doesn't- a living daughter, a means of support, a nice house with furnishings- and seems to enjoy flaunting it in this lady's face. All these things her neighbor has- until her house burns down. 1:35.0	Margaret Poole had stopped unwillingly to exchange courtesies with Mrs. Luther Eli.

1:42.0	She eyed with a sidewise glance the other woman's pink smirking face.
1:46.0	Tain't likely we be, she said, and a voice which age had made gruff instead of piping.
1:52.0	Then she took a step forward.
1:54.8	Well, we ain't going to do much, continued Mrs. Eli with an air of subdued loftiness.
2:00.3	We are just gonna have a little Christmas tree for the children.
2:03.7	Flora is going to get a few things. She says there's a very nice sortman up to whites.
