Polyplat's life and career had been upended by her husband Peter Bagnanovic's affair on the set of the last picture show.

According to Frank Marshall, one of the reasons Poly agreed to continue working with Peter was that she was hoping his affair with Cybilshiperd would not last.

I think she thought that this is Peter fulfilling his fantasy of an old Hollywood director and calling him a bloodthroat with his leading lady.

And I think that going back on what's up, Doc, and I think she was kind of hanging around thinking that was going to happen.

And then it did, and then I kind of blew up on Paper Moon.

Paper Moon, the fourth film Poly and Peter made together, filmed about two years after Bagnanovic had first fallen in love with Cybid.

In that time, Poly had learned a lot about the inevitability, the consequences, and the artistry of onset affairs, as she wrote.
