Summary

DUNE is one of the most successful sci fi creations of all time, and GRRM is absolutely one of the many who was influenced by it. In this episode, Aziz and Alt Shift X discuss both authors, their styles and the many parallels to Dune found in ASOIAF. There are NO spoilers for Dune 2 the movie in this episode - but look out for part 2 of this episode, which WILL have spoilers.

1:39.2

of ice and fire within the history of itself yeah it's funny because like Dune and Game Thrones are both so famous and popular,

1:47.2

but I think a lot of people don't immediately see the similarities between them

1:51.6

1:54.4

Dune is the science fiction series and it's got this sort of dense philosophical tone

2:01.1

to it whereas you know game of Thrones is the medieval fantasy, and so there are these superficial differences to it.

2:09.0

But I think the more you look, you see how both theories play with the same tropes and the same

2:15.2

archetypes in really interesting ways so I'm excited to talk about all these

2:20.3

similarities yeah it's going to be very deconstructive, very meta, and we're going to have to constantly ask ourselves,
