Everybody's so excited to be here with you today at the beginning of a new week.

And today and this week we're focusing on something pretty important, which is this whole alcoholic, non-alcoholic, addict, non-addict, BS that has been going around in our field forever. So I want to set you off for the rest of this week with a little thought experiment. We're going to finish it off with a bigger episode on Friday. And it's this. This is especially for those of you who struggle in your head sometime with, am I really an addict? Am I really an alcoholic? Am I not? Am I normal? All that kind of stuff, right? And so what I want you to do is forget for a second the normal alcoholic part of the equation. Let's move that away. And instead, I want you to think about another time in your life where you belong to a group or you didn't belong to a group and it felt like things were all or nothing. One of the quickest example that came to me as I was

preparing for this is school, like high school or junior high and were you part of the cool kids or

the non-cooled kids. Now, obviously there are times already with that transition, but I want you to

take yourself back to that moment where it felt like these other groups of people held something different

than you did, or if you were part of the quote unquote cool kids, you had something inherently

different about you than everybody else.

And I want you to think of the transition that you went through between seeing the world in that black and white to now. And I would imagine that for almost anybody listening right now,

the idea that the world is really split up in the cool and not cool kids, nerds and non-nerds,

is not really true. We all understand that they are such more nuanced version of this.

You can have a mix of either one. You can have a mix of four or five different groups.
