Hi, this is a great episode. We had a fitting guest for episode 50.

Someone who really needs no introduction, a return guest to the podcast, none other than

New York Times columnist, Jamel Booey. That's right. What did we talk with him about?

So we had Jamel on to talk about a column he wrote about why we are not in a scenario in America

where there's going to be a new civil war. So it's basically we had this kind of a long

ranging conversation about this discourse about an impending civil war in America today.

Whether that analogy makes sense, why people are drawn to it, but also why the circumstances

in America today are actually not comparable to the 1860s. And you know, listeners might know that

Jamel has a minor interest in the civil war. He's basically giving himself a PhD in

19th century America by reading book after book after book after book. It's incredible.

I know, even sometimes he's humble and so he doesn't always say everything he's read, but there

was a few times in the conversation. I was like, looking at my bookshelf saying, I know what he's

talking about. You know, like, yes. And it was kind of a fun, like we recorded it Friday night,

like at 8 p.m. Oh, yeah. A wild Friday night. It was like a fun Friday night hang and chat.

So this is a little more discursive, maybe than some of our, you know, a little more

looser in some ways, but I think we land in some really interesting places. So yeah, no,

it's pretty pathetic, though, also that there's nothing I'd rather have done with my Friday night.
