Originally called Armistice Day, it marked the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

In 1954, it became Veterans Day, honoring all veterans living and past.

What began as a dark day to remember the end of

World War I has grown into a national tribute to every American who has served our country.

Thank you for your service to all of our veterans across all branches of the armed forces.

And speaking of service, after nearly 40 years in Congress, Nancy Pelosi announced she will not seek re-election.

The first female Speaker of the House, Pelosi broke barriers and led the Democrats through decades of political change.

Her decision to retire marks the end of a historic chapter in American politics, but her

legacy serves as an inspiration for women to lead and serve at any level of government.
