Today's 10-minute walk will help you keep the fitness promise you made to yourself, and it will add another link to your growing fitness chain. If I sound a little hesitant as we're beginning our walk together this morning, it's because my concentration, my focus is a little divided.

I have chosen to walk back in the woods, but I'm walking very early in the morning, so it is dark.

I don't have any daylight. I have a flashlight, and I'm glancing around a bit at what am I going to step on?

So I've told you my story before.

I began pursuing fitness with intentionality in early 2008.

I was 47 years old.

I hadn't been feeling great, was gaining some weight, thought, yeah, I think it's time that I need to be much more intentional about exercise,

started running, and I did that for five years. I ran at minimum every other day, and there were some weeks where I ran five days a week,

maybe even six days a week. And those runs mostly were three miles. But as I was training for

some of the longer events, those runs would extend upwards of about 10 miles or so.

So I was pretty committed and enjoyed doing it, really loved running in the events.

There was an energy and electricity to participating in, whether it was a 5K, 10K, half marathon, running with so many others,

crossing the finish line, getting the metal. I love that. I mean, I really love that.

The actual running and the training for those events, when there were no crowds, no medals,

that oftentimes felt more like work.

But there are many who have decided that running is their fitness activity. And it's not just

the events, but it's the training runs. It's the runs that really aren't training for anything.

There's a love and a passion for those as well.
