There's still room for facts and discussions about foreign-born terrorists and the risks that they pose.

In a new analysis with updated data, Cato's Alex Narasta walks through acts of terrorism committed

from the mid-1970s through 2017. His conclusion, terrorism poses manageable risks and

sharply curtailing immigration is not the answer.

If I'm not mistaken, Alex, you've written something like this before.

That's right. I wrote a paper published in 2016 on the threat of foreign-born terrorism,

taking a look at the risks of being killed by a foreign-born

terrorist based on the visa they used to enter the country. I decided to update that

paper, add more years, but also add more categories. So I added in

I added in the ideology of the attackers, and I also added in all native-born

terrorists so that you can compare.

Okay, so what do we know about foreign-born terrorists and their acts through 2017.

So what we know is that from 1975 through 2017, foreign-born terrorists killed a total of

3,037 people on U.S. soil, which translates to a 1 in 3.8 million chance per year of being

murdered in such an attack committed by a foreign-born terrorist on U.S. soil and that about 99 percent, just under 99 percent of those victims were murdered in one attack on 9-11.

When you break it down further by ideology of those 3,037 people murdered, 3,025 of them, or over 99% were murdered by Islamist terrorists.

While the other sort of influential ideologies, most of them are responsible for zero death.

So foreign nationalists such as Armenian terrorists who are seeking to revenge against Turks in the United States for the Armenian Genocide

are responsible for five deaths, right-wing foreign-born terrorists for five deaths, and left-wing

foreign-born terrorists for one death during that time period.
