The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. 3 You have multiplied the nation;
you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest,
as they are glad when they divide the spoil. 4 For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. 5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

Lord, we ask that you would give encouragement and hope to those who are struggling this year

makes for a very difficult holiday season.

you will be the light and you will be the center of everything

1:04.6

Father we pray that you give us that sort of vision so that the losses of this

1:09.2

world will not be as painful because we know of the hope that's ahead. And Lord, we ask that in Jesus

name, Amen. Well, being Christmas, I wanted to give a little bit of a different sort of an

1:22.2

approach today. We are going to step away from the

1:24.7

book of Romans chapter 11 and come back to it tomorrow. Today I wanted to go backward in the scriptures.

1:30.8

Back to Isaiah chapter 9. This is a passage that is one of the

1:36.7

Christmas passages that you hear quite often. If you're familiar with Handels Messiah

1:46.2

there are a number of passages out of Handels Messiah, the musical composition that are from Isaiah chapter 9.

1:49.5

It's because Isaiah chapter 9 is a messianic prophecy, meaning Isaiah wrote it about certain

1:56.8

circumstances, at least in his mind, that's what it was about, but God gave him a prophecy as he wrote and the prophecy had to do with the Messiah

2:06.7

who was coming and we looking back are able to see very clearly some of the ways in which it's about Jesus and his birth and the time
