Summary

The spiraling cost of medical care shapes people’s lives: The jobs we’re afraid to leave because of insurance, the risk that a trip to the doc could end in bankruptcy. It’s not healthy. This is my story too, and that’s why I’m making this podcast.

Hey there. I'm Dan Weisman. I'm a radio reporter. I left a job last year. It broke my heart to leave.

And one thing made it not just heartbreaking, but terrifying. Freaking health insurance.

Leaving that job. terrifying. exchange and I knew that was going to be scary and confusing and now I'm confronting it head on me and my family the other day my wife and I had the talk.

So I've been doing some research on health insurance and here's what I have so far.

Oh, I'm almost scared to know. I know, I know. By the time the first season of this podcast is over, we'll need to figure out what we're doing for 2019.

after insurance? Yeah, me too. And not the politics stories. We got plenty of those. I'm talking

about the everyday stories, but like, wait, they're charging me 500 bucks for a blood test kind of stories.

We're just... Is my insurance going to cover this? Those stories. And what's behind them and maybe what we can do about it.

I think this is a conversation we're all pretty ready to have.

As soon as I started talking with people about doing this project,

I was up to my eyeballs and stories.

Every friend, every neighbor had one.

You know, there was a lot of crying.

I opened the bill and I just sort of crying.
