United States. And this is the 11th hour. A thought about the name before we go any further.

Strictly speaking, it's only the 11th hour if you started your day at noon. And who does

that? Now, the phrase is much older than the show. In the ancient world, the daylight was counted in 12

hours, sunrise to sunset. The 11th hour was the last one, when the day was almost done, but the

hard work was not. And famously, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in

1918, the guns of the First World War fell silent. That's the 11th hour we all know. This show was

built a decade ago by Brian Williams in the home stretch of the 2016 election in a moment that

demanded all of our attention. I started at this network on this show

beside Brian, alongside Nicole Wallace. When Brian left, I held this chair briefly. My friend and

partner in crime, Stephanie Rule, has held it since. Tonight, I'm back. The job then is this,

to bear witness, to hold power to account, to make this
