She is a Han Gwichin and Lakota woman with traditional facial tattoos, handpoked by

her mother.

She mushes dogs and hunts and fishes.

She grew up in rural Alaska, on land where her mother's ancestors have lived for thousands

of years.

Her cover shoot for Outside was her first public presentation on those lands.
