Summary

We sat down with the incredibly open Roz Weston, host of the hugely popular Roz & Mocha syndicated radio show and podcast, for a vulnerable conversation about his just released #1 Bestselling Memoir - A Little Bit Broken. You may know him from hosting the award winning ET CANADA LIVE and Entertainment Tonight Canada for 17 years. He's also freshly engaged, the dad of a 12 year old girl, and possibly the only person to ever write an entire book just to propose to his girlfriend. Thank you Roz for sharing your insightful story. Check out his book A Little Bit Broken everywhere books are sold and follow @rozweston.

And if I didn't know there is a problem, how are you supposed to know there was a problem? Because I didn't know. I didn't know what I was doing was wrong. Like, I didn't know. I think as a mom, though, you feel like you should know. Yeah. As a parent, you're like, you know, how did she and she never knew about the sexual assault until the book? She read it. Drop it like a tie. Drop it like a tie.

0:22.3

Natalie, what do I do?

0:26.0

I hope it's giddy, giddy.

0:29.0

Okay, well, guys, we have a very special guest.

0:31.1

We never, just so you know, the only other man we've ever done was Gary Vee.

0:35.5

Really?

0:36.4

Yeah.

0:37.1

We had Colton Underwood and we did Lewis Howe and Ed Milet. So I'm lying about that. So it's been a long time since we had a man. Maybe since pre-pandemic. It's such a pleasure. We're so excited. And intimidating as how. Oh, yeah. Because a lot of men are very egocentric. Right. And that's really not good for our, like our vibe over here. No. And, and I don't think that that's particularly good for anywhere. Yeah. Right? Yeah. No, I agree with you on that one. But it is, it's common for two women walk into the room that that's what happens. Yep. Just so you know. So we, you reach our test because you have a new book and it's doing

1:17.1

amazing and it's juicy. And I have heard people on the radio crying because of the response.

1:24.4

Like, what is that? So the, yeah, the response, well, you, you don't know what the response is going to be. And I think that that was like the sort of, that was the crazy part of it is that you sit down and you spend so long writing a bloody book. Yeah, you do. You spend two years. And I cried like every day writing, you know, writing the book. And you don't know if you're going to get to the end of it.

1:45.5

And then by the time you, it's released, you're almost attached from it because you've done so much little tiny bits of work to it that it's no lie. I have no, I had no emotional attachment to it. And then the book is released and, you know, it really meant a lot to a lot of people. And I sort of wanted it to hit, you know,

2:01.7

one person because I talk a lot about grief and I talk a lot about body issues and I talk a lot about self-harm and I talk a lot about all this stuff. And it wasn't, it's just not stuff that one, I don't think men talk a whole lot about. I don't think men in my position talk a whole lot about. And I was as hard on myself that I was sort of on

2:19.9

anybody else in my story. And I think that that was the mandate going into it was that I wasn't

2:25.1

going to filter what was actually true. And I think it meant a lot to people, especially,

2:32.6

you know, the mistakes you make when you're going through a lot of things in life, like grief. Like, I really screwed up the way I handled my dad dying. Like, I really did. And it- Can you screw that? But are there rules for that? Yeah. Yeah. Are there, you think there are rules? Yeah. Oh. Yeah. The way that I dealt with it was when he was dying, I, in some kind of

2:54.6

weird morbid way, I killed him off before he was actually dead. I picked the point where I had said

3:00.3

a goodbye to him while he was still alive. And then I wanted to just get on with the grieving already.

3:05.2

And so I sort of robbed him of those last couple of months

3:09.4

of the two of us being able to say goodbye to each other because I was already moving on with life.

3:15.0

And then my mom would be like, God, all your dad wants you to do is just call him. And I'm like,

3:18.3

yeah, I'll call him tomorrow. And I never did. Right. And so why did you do that?

3:23.3

Because it was, it hurt too, it hurt too much and and i felt
