Welcome to Karen Hunter is awesome. I'm Karen Hunter. It's Women's History Month. So I wanted to do a little short

0:15.5

reminder for women of a certain age. This is a special year for me. And I must admit, I feel so empowered. I feel so empowered. I saw a clip from Morgan Freeman. He was on one of these talk shows. And, you know, he's a man of a certain age. And he was asked, you know, how do you deal with aging or something? And he said Clint Eastwood told him, okay, let me just say all these men are problematic. But the message, I'm always chewing up the meat, spitting out the bones of him. When I hear a good message, I'm going to share it. Okay. And he said, Clint Eastwood told him, don't let the old man in. And I thought about that. Society will tell you woman of a certain age,

0:56.9

and I think it's after childbearing, that you are not valuable, that you're worth in needfulness,

1:03.5

or your worth and value in this society has diminished because you no longer can produce children.

1:09.2

But we've talked about this in this space before.

Menopause is actually one of the most powerful times and periods in a woman's life. It is when you

1:18.0

are the most powerful. And you spend most of your life out of childbearing if you're listening to me.

1:23.6

And I can't stress this enough because the light bulb came on, not just because I'm in that

1:28.3

period, but it just made so much sense because I feel like I can do everything that I imagine.

1:35.3

And I'm not worrying about bleeding every month. And during the time towards the later years,

1:40.7

before menopause, I was, you know, suffering from fibroids. I was heavily anemic

1:46.0

because, you know, the bleeding and the bleeding was debilitating. I bled through, and this is,

1:53.2

I know it's a little graphic. I bled through a lot of things. One of the most embarrassing

1:57.9

moments ever. I was at somebody's home and I got up and had bled on

2:03.6

their cushion. And I was so mortified. I was so mortified. And I just remember, you know,

2:10.2

always having to navigate that time of the month, especially when, you know, the fibroid

2:15.2

situation was very, very problematic. And I direct you to

2:19.8

my podcast, several ones that I had with Dr. Sharon Malone and talking about menopause. So y'all

2:26.3

can get your life. This is going to be a short one where I just want to encourage people of a

2:30.3

certain age, particularly those of you, if you're heading towards a certain age, and let me just say, if you're in your 30s right now, hope to get to your 50s and 60s. If you're in your 20s right now listening to this, the goal is to keep living. The goal is to live life abundantly well into your 50, 60, 70s, and 80s and 90s. I want people in their 90s. I want that to be aspirational. I think about

2:52.2

Ernestine, the weightlifter, who started lifting weights in her late 50s and she's now in her 80s

2:57.8

out there bodybuilding. Lord have mercy. Yes, those are the goals. So, and you can get some tips here,
