The Midnight Library is pleased to introduce Guide to the Unknown, a show that explores

all the wonderful entertaining horrors our existing culture has to offer.

Each Friday, Kristen and Will daringly discuss such divine topics as haunted amusement

parks, real life ghostly happenings, cursed thrift store purchases, probably our stuff,

and what they recommend to thrill you in their detailed reviews of current and classic horror

films and gruesome video games all while enduring and even enjoying the curse of being siblings.

You may even hear Molly, their ghost dog, or regular dog but sees ghosts.

So there are a ton of different versions of the bogeyman story across cultures, geographics,

all of that, but it seems like you can divide the intentions of the bogeyman up into three

categories. There are bogeymen who punish misbehaving children, so just frighten them,

not hurt them, but give them a little scared to get them in line. There are more violent,

super scary bogeymen who are going to eat the children if they do something bad, and very

occasionally there are bogeymen who are there to protect the innocent, kind of like an avenging

angel sort of vibe. Protect the innocent. Yes. I'm not aware of good guide bogeymen.

I have at least one story of a good guide bogeyman here. So there's one good bogeyman.

Perhaps. Okay. Yes. But that's enough for a third of your whole category. Yeah. That's right.

I didn't make up the categories. I was on the myths and folklore wiki, and they pointed that out.

So maybe they're even there. It's their analysis. I went through and picked the most interesting

stories to me. Yes. Maybe there was a good bogeyman story that didn't strike my fancy.
