Hi everyone, it's 4 o'clock in New York as we have learned more and more and more about

the events of January 6 and the insurrection and specifically the efforts of the twice

impeached disgraced ex-president to overturn his 2020 election defeat.

It has become a glaring and unavoidable fact that former Vice President Mike Pence,

one of the key characters in the story of January 6 and the person on which the entire

Trump coup plot relied on doing what Trump wanted him to do.

He's never told a story, he's never testified about exactly what happened to him or what

made his whole family in a secret service detail run.

Or went under the country for that matter under oath.

Well, today we got news of a potential breakthrough on that front specifically.

A federal judge has ordered Mike Pence to testify before the federal grand jury under oath.

That grand jury of course is investigating the January 6 insurrection and Donald Trump's

efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Judge James E. Bozberg has rejected both Donald Trump and Mike Pence's efforts to block

a subpoena from special counsel Jack Smith.

New York Times reports this quote this month, Trump's lawyers asked Judge Bozberg's predecessor

as chief judge for the court, that's barrel A Howell, to limit Pence's testimony by claiming

that certain issues were off limits because of executive privilege.

That protects communications between the president and some members of his administration.

At the same time, lawyers for Pence asked to limit his testimony by arguing that his

role as president of the Senate means he's protected from legal scrutiny by the executive

branch, including the Justice Department, under the Constitution's speech or debate clause.
