I'm your host, Paige Browning, with the results and analysis for night one of ballot counting.

It's Wednesday, August 7th.

Democratic candidates are doing well across the board in statewide races, with the exception of Commissioner of Public Lands, where the top two so far are both Republicans.

And Seattle's City Council race has clarified. We'll get to those races, but first, Democrat Bob Ferguson and Republican Dave Reichert are appearing as the top two candidates for governor in early results.

A reminder for this and all races, Washington votes by mail. Mail doesn't come in all at once, and therefore the vote counts will change over the next couple weeks.

Ferguson has 45% of the vote from night one. Reichert has nearly 28%. Ferguson has served as

Washington Attorney General since 2012 and focused his campaign platform on the 99 lawsuits he filed

against former President Trump. He's running on defending abortion rights and standing up for

consumer rights and civil up for consumer rights

and civil rights. Rikert is a former Republican U.S. congressman and served as King County Sheriff

during the final years of the Green River Killers murders. His campaign has focused on boosting

police numbers and fighting lawlessness and lowering taxes.

Our next race, Attorney General of Washington.

Voters have favored Republican Pete Serrano, followed by Democrat Nick Brown

in night one results. This is an open primary race since A.G. Ferguson is running for governor

instead. Another open race, Commissioner of Public Lands, since Commissioner Hillary Franz is instead

running for Congress, this one's close.

The leaders so far are Jamie Herrera Butler and Sue Peterson, both of them Republicans.
