Motive can't always sway a jury.

On May 5th, 2011, a man was arrested for the murder of a family, a case in which a jury,

despite motive, could not agree on if the man was guilty or not. In the early hours of July 18, 2009,

a man entered a family home in North Epping, New South Wales, and slaughtered everyone inside.

The victims were 45-year-old newsagent proprietor, Min Lin, his 43-year-old wife, Yon Lin,

their sons, Henry 12, and Terry 9, and Yon's sister, 39-year-old Irene Lynn. The only survivor from the Lynn family

was 15-year-old Jun Brenda Lynn, who had been away on a school trip. She had learned about her family's

massacre from Facebook. Each member of the family had been bludgeoned to death and lay there until Min Lin's sister,

Kathy, and her husband, Leon Bin, Robert, Jehe, discovered the bodies when they went to see why the

news agency had not been opened for the day. Kathy immediately called for an ambulance, while Robert

left to pick up Min and Kathy's parents who lived in the

Maryland's. Everyone was pronounced dead at the scene, and there was nothing that anyone could do

for the Lynn family. Investigating the scene to try and find answers, police noticed the heavy

blood splattering from the floor to the ceiling. Each victim's face had been so badly beaten

and disfigured that it took forensics to initially identify them, and with no evidence of a break-in,

they started to consider that whoever the killer was, they likely knew and had a vendetta against
