It's been a very difficult week for one Chuck Schumer,

minority leader in the U.S. Senate for the Democrats.

He has made a huge error from the perspective

of his progressive supporters on the far left. And he's also angered a lot of Democrats generally

who believe that he should have done something differently when it came time to make a decision

about whether to advance the bill that would keep the government open and functioning,

or whether to stand and fight. Schumer's perspective on this is fueled by the fact that he has

seen one shutdown after another go against Republicans politically, where they received the

blame from the media for failing to open the government, failing to keep it

open during various fights over spending and CRs in the past.

And Schumer basically took the lesson from that, that there was not very much to be gained

The reason being that he knows, as anyone does who pays attention to this process, that if the

government were to shut down, even for a temporary period, it would allow people like Elon Musk

and others working for the Doge program to move even faster when it came to shuttering agencies,

Without the bureaucracy in place to push back against them, without any of those people

actually functionally doing their jobs, it would really be an opportunity for the Trump

administration to run roughshod over this internal bureaucratic arm that they've been

fighting, the administrative state. Schumer is aware of this, but for whatever reason, it's not

something that he wanted to communicate publicly. He didn't want to be seen as taking odds against,
