Washington, D.C. is focused right now on the prospects of a potential government shutdown.

How often have we gone through this ridiculous rigmarole over and over again over the past decade?

This is the effect that happens when Congress bounces back and forth from continuing resolution to

continuing resolution without actually doing its job when it comes to making decisions in the

budgetary process. That's also the reason that something like Doge exists.

The fact that Congress has been refusing to make those decisions because they're hard and because

they have political consequences over the past many years is the reason that we have a sclerotic

non-functional government in D.C. But also when it comes to the mission of Doge, we are facing a

prospect that is very interesting because of the political fallout that could happen if Democrats

actually go down the road of making a shutdown happen. Speaker Mike Johnson has been working toward a deal that is essentially

another can kick. That is continuing the kind of budgetary stupidity that we've seen going on for

years and anticipating some big beautiful bill that will solve all of it in the future.

This never, of course, comes to pass. So instead,

what you have are continuing resolutions that just stack up the money and send it back out to the

agencies and bureaucracies across the federal government in ways that won't ruffle anybody's feathers.
