This is more of a topical reflection, if you will. And the title, and I want this to sort of set the

theme for the rest of the weekend is a defense or in defense rather. The title is in defense of

tradition. In defense of tradition. And I think this relates to music because music was one of the first things to go, at least traditional music, in the last few decades that I can think of.

I mean, you think there's so many other things. Churches don't tend to want graveyards or steeples.

Even crosses are considered somewhat archaic.

I've done some documentaries on church takeovers.

Some of you might have seen them.

And you bring these consulting firms in,

and they don't think you should have a choir,

they don't think you should have formal attire.

I was doing an interview yesterday with a radio host,

and I forget the name of the show. The host was asking about

church mergers and he said, well, can any of them go well, though? I mean, are there examples of

church mergers working out? I said, I'm sure there are, but I will say this. I've never heard of a

church merger where the traditional church

takes over the contemporary church and says, you know what, that rock man, you better get rid of that.

And you better start dressing formally. And I want to see crosses and organs. I mean, it always

goes the other way. Every single time, the pressure is on those

with traditional beliefs and, I would say,

the trappings of traditional church.

They're the ones that have to conform

to whatever the new thing is.
