Last week, Thursday, April 5th, 2022 was the 45th anniversary of one of the most well-known early disability civil rights actions in American history.

On April 5, 1977, disabled people led simultaneous sit-ins at 11 housing education and welfare

offices across the United States, and this is known as the 504 sit-in.

And the idea was to attempt to pressure the Carter administration to implement one small section

of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, which was originally passed under Nixon, but had

been held up and delayed over concerns about overall costs to the quote-unquote taxpayer.
