It’s December 29th. This day in 1975, a bomb, planted in a luggage locker, exploded at NYC’s LaGuardia Airport, killing 11 and injuring 74. If it had gone off just minutes earlier, it would have killed hundreds more.

Jody and Niki discuss who was responsible for the bombing, the prevalence of scattered violence in the 1970s, and why New York City was often the place in which conflicts from around the world would play out.

So let's talk about the LaGuardia bombing of 1975, a story that I got to say I had no idea about and I feel like I'm pretty

0:54.9

tuned into the history of New York City not to mention the fact that this story is really

1:00.7

interesting because we kind of still don't for sure know who was behind this bombing.

Sillier note for next. But let's talk about this bombing in

1975. And Nicky, usually on our show I like to start in very specific. We like to dive right

1:32.0

into the specifics of the story and then pull back.

1:34.0

pull back, but in this case, I do wonder if we can start with a broader context on two

fronts, which is one, 1975 is a really interesting year in American history and then also the level of

1:45.4

violence and in particular bombings that Americans in this era encountered and
