Let's get into the mix here are your Washington headlines of the day. Number one, redistricting is the biggest story of the 2026 midterms. We have all the details. Number two, day 15 of the government shutdown. Thune is changing tactics. And number three, what's happening in New Hampshire? All right, Jake, let's get into it. We have been obviously laser focused on the government shutdown. But there is a split screen happening here when if you shift over to the political domain, 26, we are in an all Republican-controlled

Washington. President Donald Trump wants nothing more than to make sure that it stays that way

and break historical precedent. And we are in an unprecedented environment

across the country. And it really was studying to me. We've been reporting on this,

Ali Muttnick, yourself and Laura Weiss, some others on our team have been breaking a ton of news.

But we go down kind of state by state. And while Republicans seem to have the upper hand

and they're doing a lot. Democrats are answering the call here.

Yeah, in some respect, they are. Illinois is the most recent culprit, I guess you can say,

the most recent participant in this redistricting fight. Hakeem Jeffries is pushing Illinois to

redistrict. He has personally lobbied legislative leaders to draw out Mary Miller.

A Republican from Illinois, J.B. Pritzker, is also supportive of adding more seats. It is a gamble,

like any redistricting effort. I mean, this is all a gamble, right? It's kind of amazing because

imagine if, I mean, Illinois's not going to net you.

He's going to net you one seat, right?

Maryland, another state we talk about here, could net you one seat.

I mean, we're not talking about massive, you know, pockets of democratic votes.

You're talking about one seat, but in the modern day House of Representatives,
