I love a good spy story. It's so intriguing for me to think that someone among us might

0:05.6

not be who we think they are. They're faking their name, their background, and their purpose,

0:10.4

trying to get information of some kind. And it's always interesting to see what kind of methods

0:15.2

these people use to communicate, right in plain sight, but to the untrained eye, you have no idea

0:20.3

that a message is being sent. Like, for instance, there's been times when spies would tie their

0:24.6

shoelaces in a specific way to communicate certain things. So like if your shoelaces had extra

0:30.6

knots in them, it could mean something like don't approach me, or if the shoe was tied with

0:34.8

laces crossed over it or under it, that might mean, okay, all clear, come give me the message.

0:40.0

Or maybe if the shoe was untied, it means you've been spotted, get out. And what's cool about

0:44.8

this trick is you can have one message on one shoe and a different message on another. This way,

0:49.7

the person could send a different message depending on the situation. Like if one shoe said,

0:54.3

wait, and the other shoe said, all clear, the person could just put out their shoe that had the

0:58.6

right message on it at the time and cover up the other shoe somehow, like by sitting on it or

1:02.8

something. I love hearing about spy tricks and methods that they call trade craft. And in this

1:09.1

episode, we'll hear a story about a spy and how they operate.

Support for the show comes from CrowdStrike. Is it me or does it feel like every other

1:48.5

news story is about cyber attacks? You feel that way too? Well, as a listener of my show,

1:54.0

you already know how vulnerable your business is to hackers. But imagine getting a peaceful night's

do it. CrowdStrike. At CrowdStrike, they're consistently evolving to stay ahead of the attackers,
