Summary

How often do you take action in a way that makes you think, “This is going to get me where I want to go!” My guess is that you’re not taking these kinds of strategic action steps often enough, AND you’re probably taking many other action steps each day that are not helping advance your career growth.  In fact, you may be stuck in a vicious (exhausting?!) cycle of over-giving, over-producing, and over-proving yourself without any long-term benefit to your career.   In this episode, I’m sharing five leadership skills that truly accelerate women’s careers - not in a hustle-harder, fix-yourself way - but in a grounded, strategic, and sustainable way. Too often, women are given vague advice like “just be more confident” or “speak up more,” without being taught the actual skills that create visibility, influence, and momentum. This episode is about naming the skills that actually move the needle in your career advancement and then making them actionable.  This is especially for women who are doing great work and still feel stuck or overlooked. I walk through five specific skills that I’ve seen make a real difference over and over again: strategic self-advocacy, clear and confident communication (especially in high-stakes moments), intentional relationship-building, navigating power and bias without losing yourself, and setting boundaries that protect both your energy and your credibility. I talk honestly about the traps women are often socialized into, such as self-sacrificing, waiting to be noticed, staying quiet to stay “likable,” and how these skills help you move out of those patterns without becoming someone you’re not. This conversation is for women at any stage of their career who want to lead with more intention, influence, and ease. My hope is that as you listen, you’ll identify one skill that feels especially relevant right now - one lever you can pull that creates momentum instead of burnout. Leadership isn’t about perfection or a dazzling personality; it’s about practicing the skills that help you be seen, heard, and valued for the leader you already are, so that when the right opportunity opens up, you are well-positioned to step right into it. stories to help you become a more confident, compassionate, and inclusive leader. The truth is,

0:27.5

you were born to lead. What might happen for you if you were to wholeheartedly embrace that

0:32.2

part of yourself? So let's start now, together. Hello, shameless leaders. Oh my goodness. We're keeping it real,

0:40.6

real today. I'm standing at my desk, which totally messes up my recording lighting, because my

0:47.4

back and hips hurt. And I also have a cold and feel like I could sneeze at any moment. So it's just, it's a whole

0:54.8

hot mess express situation going on over here. So thanks for bearing with me. And if you're

1:00.3

watching on YouTube, you're like, her lighting is off and she looks sickly. True and true. And behind me,

1:07.8

I have my dog whose name I won't say because she'll get too excited, but she's sitting on the ottoman behind me trying to remind me with her silent presence that it is very much time for me to take her for a W-A-L-K and that I should not be recording right now.

All right. So today we're talking about five leadership skills for women that actually accelerate your

1:28.4

career. And I'm excited to talk about this because what I think is really, really important

1:32.6

when we're thinking about leadership and talking about leadership is that we are actually

1:36.7

breaking down skills that are important and skills that move the needle, more so than focusing

1:43.3

on just doing more for the sake of hopefully at some point

1:47.2

being acknowledged as someone who can do all the things at any time in any situation

1:51.4

and feeling like the only way we can get further is to hustle harder because

1:55.3

that is absolutely not the case the antidote to hustle harder and fix yourself and check boxes that other people

set for you. This is really intended to be skills that you can use, strategies that are intentional,

2:10.6

and also sustainable habits that will get you where you want to go. This is also going to be specific

2:15.6

in a way where I'm not just telling you to be more confident

2:19.3

or like do this thing indefinitely that feels a little vague or nebulous. I really want you to feel like,

2:26.6

okay, here are some steps I can actually take and put into practice and know that I'm doing the things
