Welcome back to the Diet Dr.

Dr. Brett Scher.

0:06.0

Today I'm joined by Ty Beale.

0:07.7

Now, Ty got his PhD from UC Davis in geography with an emphasis on global nutrition,

0:14.1

and he's a research advisor at Gain, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, whereas

0:20.0

focus is on sustainable food systems,

0:23.0

dietary quality, and nutrient adequacy. And he's pretty active on Twitter at Ty R-B-L, T-Y-R-B-E-A-L.

1:15.4

Look, I mean, there's no secret that there's a big push for plant-based or plant-exclusive

1:20.1

diets here in the U.S. and in industrialized worlds.

1:24.1

And I think that's very problematic, not just here, but imagine what the message would be in areas where they don't have access to whole foods the same way that we do.

1:34.2

And even if when we have access, there's still going to be a significant risk of nutrient inadequacy.

1:38.8

So that's a big part of Ty's message that I really appreciate.
