What's going on? Welcome to the Fit Healthy and Happy Podcast. I'm your host, KG, here with my co-host.

JW. And we are going to talk to you about the top 10 fitness fads that we came across. There's an article online, so we're just going to kind of look through that and give you our input and tell you what you should stay away from. So yeah, a lot of these things will be things you've heard of and then maybe you said, maybe I'll give that a shot or I wonder if that's a scam or if there's any merit in it. And I think it'll just be kind of fun to, you know, as fitness professionals to go through, explore these and give you our thoughts so that, you know, when your friends and family ask you if they should be doing these things, that you can go ahead and give your input so first and foremost we have the bowflex home gym

0:42.2

oh so what are your thoughts on the bowflex i have a lot of clients that uh at in in their like

0:48.4

basements or basically their garage like i go to their house and train them and they all seem

0:53.3

to have one of these but i just never use them because they're just like horrible in my opinion like if you i think there's some things you could use but just everything's so sticky like it just doesn't move right they have a set of dumbbells and dumbbells in my opinion work like a hundred times better i've just never found the use of them because they're also older and they just breaks down pretty easily but that's kind of just my input. Yeah, I think they're a little gimmicky. I think in theory they're fantastic, but you're gonna grow them really quick. So the whole point of a Bowflex, if you don't know what it is, it's a compact home gym. So it's usually one piece of equipment where you can do leg exercises, pull downs, rows, bench press. And obviously the shortcoming here is you're not going to be able to move the loads you want to move and things will be kind of awkward to use. Now saying so, if this is your only option, you only can work out at home and you fine with using lighter weights, hey, I mean, cool, I guess if it makes a gym more accessible. but to me you know gyms are so franchised and there's so many readily available that I would much rather people actually sign them to a gym and have access to tons and tons of equipment where they will see better results and once again I've said it before but if I had to get one thing for at home it would just be a power rack and some dumbbells I think that's truly all you need and you would get a lot more

2:01.5

use out of that. The Bowflex is more of a quick sale. You put in your basement, you use it for a week, never use it again. But once again, there's an exception. I get what they're trying to do, but in practice I don't think people use it enough and... It just sits there, collects dust for my opinion for sure that's our takeaway next up is

2:19.0

p90x so p90x was a huge phase it was kind of online workout videos uh where you could get in great

2:25.6

shape and uh this is an interesting one for me because this is actually one of how one of the things

2:30.3

i did to actually get started into fitness so you know i got really excited got really excited. I started making little nutritional changes, trying to be more active, doing some pull-ups and some sit-ups when I was really young. And then eventually, you know, I got a P90X gifted to me on a USB. I don't know how legal that was. One of my friends gave it to me, but I'm like, hey, what the heck? I'm going to use this, right? So I started doing that. I followed the whole program. There was printouts.

2:51.4

I put it up

2:54.9

90-day calendar and I got pretty shredded I mean it's a pretty great intro

2:59.2

program I think you'll outgrow it quite fast and in terms of you know

3:03.3

developing serious muscle I wouldn't really count on it because you're stuck to the

3:06.6

confines of your own home but I did have a count on it because you're stuck to the confines of your own home

3:07.8

But I did have a fantastic experience and if you're a beginner I think it's a cool accountability

3:12.8

I mean their ab routine is so hard and so good the yoga is one of the hardest things I've done in my life

3:17.8

I really like the pliometrics but it's good if you know you're okay being really kind of lean and shredded and that's all you really care about. You don't really care about having much size, maybe a little bit of definition. But once again, I think it's a great starting thing, but you will grow it really quick. So this one gets a checkmark. I've never tried it, but cool. It was good for that. But I don't know what they're doing anymore. Like, this is an old one. I did P90X.

3:41.1

I know there's other things with the Beach Body programs. But I think it is a great beginner's thing. So, yeah, we'll give it a check mark. So next up is the vibrating belt. So they're saying this is from 1960s. So I don't even know what this is, to be honest, but it looks pretty hilarious. So for the listeners, it was $140.

3:59.3

There was two belt and a two post. I don't even know what this is to be honest, but it looks pretty hilarious. So for the listeners, it was $140.

3:59.4

There was two belt and a two post massager.

4:02.9

I suppose it vibrates and it's supposed to tone you up,

4:06.5

tone up your waist and tone up your butt.
