Hi, this is Steve. In some ways, Martin Scorsese film Taxi Driver seems to come very much out of a particular time and a particular place.

This was an era where our tour directors had the freedom to explore darker and more personal

themes than had ever been expressed on film.

It is the Vietnam veteran coming home to a world where he no longer fits.

It is the troubled violent streets of New York in the 1970s, an era of urban rot, political

dissolution, and the rise of a kind of chaotic violence which seemed to shake the very pillars

of civilization. The world has changed so much since then, and yet

there is something about taxi driver which seems just as relevant, powerful, and disturbingly

familiar today as it was when the movie premiered 42 years ago.

This is not an easy film and it doesn't give easy answers.

Instead, it offers a window, the rare chance to see the world through the eyes of a man who was at once sympathetic and psychopathic, a mass murderer, and yet from some perspectives a hero.
