1954. And to kick things off, I'm taking you to the Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

It's a very sad scene. A 49-year-old woman named Nanny Doss is sobbing uncontrollably. She's just heard the news

that her husband, Sam, has passed away. Nanny is surrounded by a group of hospital staff, all of whom

are trying to comfort her. The staff at the Hillcrest adore Nanny. She's recently spent three

weeks at the hospital while Sam was battling a life-threatening gastric virus.

Nanny's such a warm, friendly woman,

and she has a very sweet giggle.

Down the hall, however, there's one member of staff

who isn't going to comfort Nanny.

Dr. Dean Heidi. Now, Dean is trying to make sense of exactly what happened.

Because only a few days previously, he had seen Nanny's husband, Sam Doss, walk out of Hillcrest, fit as a fiddle.

It was Dean who had treated Sam for the gas of virus.

He had brought Sam back to full health.
