Rowan Beaird is the author of the debut novel The Divorcées, available from Flatiron Books. So my guest today is Rowan Baird, author of the debut novel The Divorces.

And I do feel like, you know, from the research that I did and the woman's stories that I learned, that's really what they were.

I mean, the divorce ranch that I mentioned before, the Flying Emmy, it was run by this woman, Emmy Wood, who was a divorcee herself, who was, you know, in some ways,

inspiration for Rita. And I think she really was a mother figure to everybody that came

through, whether they were, you know, 21 or 52, just because she understood that this was such

a vulnerable state for women. As you say, whether that's because

they're escaping really brutal abusive marriages or just because they're taking this leap

and deciding to be on their own because they don't love their husband anymore because, you know,

they found someone new.
