Summary

A ’90s Party, AI Anxiety, and an Unexpected Brushfire Bust

Joy and Claire chat about the fast passage of time, a full moon, and Claire’s ’90s outfit for a decades-themed 40th birthday party—complete with butterfly clips, a choker and mini backpack borrowed from her daughter—sparking nostalgia about music, school routines, and teen insecurities. They discuss aging and appearance pressures amplified by phones, Zoom, Botox, facelifts, and celebrity standards, plus skepticism about gurus after a flawed Stacey Sims hydration take. The conversation turns to AI: fears, a papal critique, productivity benefits, data-center controversies, and how AI accelerates workplace expectations. Claire shares a Moab encounter with an engineer connected to the James Webb Space Telescope, highlighting creativity in STEM. Joy recounts spotting and reporting an arsonist starting a brush fire near I-25, leading to an arrest. They close with product notes (Act&Acre hard water shampoo, sun gloves, ORLY breathable polish, Ilia SPF skin tint).

Hi, everybody. Happy June. Hello. How did that happen? That just happened. Wow. That is here. That is upon us.

0:28.0

Every time. Every time the passage of time just throws us for a loop. The passage of time, it's funny because, you know, when we have a podcast, we have to like like, talk about the passage of time. We clearly do. We must. Because we're like, it is June every single week. Now it's July. Right around the corner is Christmas. I love when people start posting things that they're like, happy Halloween, happy Thanksgiving Christmas is here. We'll go ahead and circle back after the holidays. But it was really cool this morning.

0:54.4

I woke up to a full moon.

1:13.6

I looked at what happens. I biked home last night in the wee hours of the morning from a birthday party in the full moon. It was nice. I went to my friend's 40th birthday party last night and it was decades themed, which I feel like is sort of a popular 40th birthday theme. This is the second 40th birthday with a decade theme that I've been to this year.

1:46.6

And I did the 90s. It really worked out for me. So you posted the photo or you sent me the photo, of course. Yeah, I put it on Instagram stories too. But you put it on Instagram. Where did you get this outfit? Oh, great question. I wore a like spaghetti strap plaid mini dress. Just think clueless. Think clueless, 100%. Or depending on your persuasion, also dairy girls. And then like a ribbed baby tea under it. White socks and black. They were Timberlands, but like the look I was going for was docks, obviously. The butterfly clip hair and then the little like choker thing. Oh, I conced a tiny backpack where did you find the stretchy choker oh does evy have one yeah okay not only does she have one

1:51.9

this is an item she wears daily okay and i had to bribe her to let me borrow it wow this is the best for

1:58.5

probably the whole story i was like evie i'm like, Evie, I'm going to this party.

2:01.1

Can I, when in this party, can I borrow this choker?

2:04.1

And like, she literally wears it all the time.

2:06.0

And she was like, okay, you can borrow it for one hour.

2:13.3

One hour.

2:15.3

That is so funny.

2:17.3

It was so good.

2:18.2

And I was like, okay, thank you so much. In my mind, I'm like, well, I, like, I made you with my body. I'm going to keep this necklace on the whole night. So the party, the kids could come for the first, like, hour. And then it was like, right time for the kids to leave. And as she's leaving, she goes, mom, you can keep the necklace. It really makes the look. I was like, it does, you're right.

2:34.8

She's like, you have to commit to the bit.

2:36.7

Yeah, she's like, I see it now.

2:38.0

I see the like, I see it now. I see the vision. You can, you can keep, you can wear the necklace the rest of the night. It really makes the look. And this tiny backpack also hers. So like the two accessories that really tie the look together are her actual accessories that she, like, she had to like empty that backpack check out to let me use it because she's like, uses it so much.

2:54.9

Like these things are daily accessories for her.

2:57.1

The lesson here is if you're going to a decades party and you have a young daughter just due to the 90s because you've got everything on hand.

3:03.9

Apparently you already have everything.

3:05.1

So the dress I did get on Amazon, it was just like some, you know, rayon printed thing, a version of what I would have actually worn. Everything else was pretty authentic. And I really felt like it really came together. I was like that I actually fully would have worn this. We had, there was a lot of 80s, a couple other 90s. There was one other girl who did a really good 90s. She had like a holographic bucket hat on.
