Summary

On today's episode I chat with Tuts, a thru-hiker, film-maker, and all-around outdoors man about his fifth, thats right FIFTH shot at thru-hiking the Adirondack's Northville-Placid Trail (spoiler, he crushes it the last time). What makes a relatively short, and nearly completely flat trail so difficult? We cover this and much more in our discussion about Tut's latest film, 'Northville-Placid Trail - If At First'. We also got into why Tut's shares his adventures with the world on Youtube, and even hear the story of how I (as in Kyle) also failed an attempt to thru-hike this infamous trail, due to a very bizarre reason. Like what you hear? Want to talk some smack? What is going on, everybody? Doesn't that intro music just get you so damn pumped?

Welcome to episode number nine of Trail Tales, podcasts where I, a through hiker and

0:23.4

peak bagger, chat with other through hikers, peakbaggers, and as of today, filmmakers

0:29.2

about their experiences in the outdoors and on the trail. I'm super stoked to share today's

0:35.3

episode. I mean, I'm always super stoked to share the week's episode, but I'm especially excited today

0:41.3

because I have a great chat with Jonathan Tutts, Meserve of the YouTube channel,

0:47.3

Trekking On.

0:49.3

I've been following Tuts on YouTube for a number of years now, so I was very happy he was willing to do an episode

0:55.1

on Trail Tales. And I'm also very happy to say that today's episode is about the Adirondacks

1:01.6

of New York, a place I've hiked quite extensively, a place that's kind of removed from the

1:08.0

Appalachian Mountains, the AT, and that sort of trail system is kind of a weird

1:12.9

contrast there. I'm not really sure what that's about, but I'm very excited to talk about the

1:18.0

infamous Northville to Placid Trail on today's episode. Once we get into the conversation, we give

1:25.7

a very thorough rundown of what the trail is, but for now,

1:29.3

all you really need to know is that it's about 140 miles long, and it just goes straight up

1:34.1

the heart of the Adirondack Wilderness. It took Tuts five tries, that's right, five tries before he

1:41.0

was able to successfully complete a through hike of the North Philadelphia

1:45.0

Placetal.

1:46.5

We get into what happened there.

1:48.7

We talk all about why this short trail is so difficult.

1:52.9

And finally, the sense of accomplishment that Tuts fell after he was finally able to successfully

1:58.9

complete the trail.
