0:00.0 | Hey everyone, welcome back to On Purpose, the place where we listen, learn and grow together |
0:07.2 | every single week. Now, I just want to take a breath for a moment because 2020 has been a truly, |
0:18.8 | truly transformative year. It's been an incredibly transformative year. And I say the word |
0:28.8 | transformative because I feel that a lot of the language we use to define 2020 right now is |
0:35.6 | obviously, and naturally so validated, so negative, it's fear-based. It's based on things going |
0:44.4 | wrong, plans falling apart, of course, the loss of things, events, but most importantly, the loss |
0:52.9 | of people, right, the loss of humans, the loss of friends or family members. And I want to go in on |
1:01.2 | this podcast and speak about each of these elements in more depth and with more specificity. |

1:54.8 | his wife and their family and the loss to the storytelling industry, the athlete industry and |
2:01.9 | and even more so to his actual family and friends. And of course, we know Kobe Bryant was a guest |
2:06.9 | on on purpose as well. So someone that we deeply valued as part of our community who gave me an |
2:13.1 | opportunity to sit with him and speak about the power of storytelling and how we could transform |
2:18.0 | the lives of young people through sports storytelling. But in January 2020, Kobe's loss made us |
2:27.6 | question time. It felt untimely. It felt like it was too soon. It started making us question how we |
2:38.7 | use our time. What retirement may mean to people, what honoring people while they're alive |
