A wide-reaching immigration relief program is expected to be announced today.

President Joe Biden is set to lay out a sweeping executive action

that would protect some undocumented migrants from deportation.

CNN Zellet-ellez has more.

Joe, this new plan would allow undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens to apply

for permanent residency without fear of deportation.

The individuals would need to live in the U.S. for 10

years and be married as of Monday. It could impact 550,000 people, amounting to

the most expansive immigration policy since Obama's program to protect the

so-called dreamers.

It comes a few weeks after Biden announced a major crackdown at the southern border, a move

that angered immigration advocates and progressives.

Today's plan is meant to ease some of their concerns and appeal to Latino voters in states like Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia.

But it highlights the balance Biden is trying to strike with one of the country's thorniest political issues.

As an extreme and long-lasting heat wave is sending temperatures soaring in the Midwest and

northeast, parts of Texas are bracing for a tropical storm. We are CNN's Allison

Chincher, who's going to be feeling the heat? So Joe, this is going to impact a lot of people.

More than 80% of the U.S. population is going to see temperatures at or above 90 degrees this week.

This means records, a lot of them more than 150 high temperature

records are expected to be set this week with some cities breaking records multiple

days in a row especially for portions of the Northeast and the Midwest.
