Hi there from CNN I'm Joe Beck with the five things you need to know for Thursday

September 12th. Back at home we all have a lot of work to do but some beer

works sure looks like a perfect world.

That was the moment two civilians made history this morning,

stepping out for the first commercial spacewalk in history.

Tech CEO and billionaire Jared Isakman and engineer Sarah Gillis

are part of SpaceX's Polaris Dawn mission,

which has taken its four-person crew to the furthest orbit

humans have ever reached, and the furthest humans have gone since the Apollo missions.

Isaac Murn and Gillis were outside the spacecraft for around 10 minutes each.

They wore suits created by SpaceX that Isakman says have been designed with one goal in mind

to one day have entire settlements of people living in space.

CNN's Kristen Fisher has more about what made this walk so remarkable.

The reason this is so important is because up until this point there has only been

NASA astronauts or government astronauts, professional astronauts that have been able to do

these incredibly risky but necessary maneuvers in space.

You know, it's one thing to go to space.

It is another thing to do a spacewalk.

It is one of the most difficult things you can do.

You know, when SpaceX attempts to go to Mars, which is what all of this is building to, it's going to require

spacesuits that are developed much faster and much cheaper than what NASA has been able to do and

so that's why these spacesuits are so important.
