January 11th. Opening arguments have begun at the International Court of

Justice in the Hague in a case accusing Israel of committing genocide

against civilians in Gaza in its war with Hamas.

South Africa has brought the case, with its representatives saying the October 7th attacks on Israel

do not excuse its actions, saying the country's leaders have also shown genocidal intent.

The application places Israel's genocidal acts and omissions within the broader context of Israel's

75-year apartheid, 56-year occupation, and 16-year siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

Israel will give its statements to the court tomorrow saying it will argue that it's

acting in self-defense and is doing the quote,

utmost to protect civilians in Gaza.
