Hello! From CNN, I'm Joe Beck. With the five things you need to know for Thursday, January 11th.

Former South Carolina Governor Nicki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis went head-to-head on CNN last night, and it was an important debate for the

2024 candidates as they're pretty much neck-and-neck for second place ahead of the

Iowa caucuses next week. They spent a lot of the evening slinging attacks at each other, and there was a bit of a theme.

I have said it again, Ron, so stop lying. And then she said she never said it, of course, you're lying.

It doesn't change the fact that Ron's lying because Ron's losing.

I thought he lied a lot. Man, Nicky Haley gives him a run for his money.

But just like previous debates, both candidates largely ignored the front runner, former President Donald Trump, who as usual, decided to skip the event and hold his own.

Some of the biggest drama of the night came before the debate even started, though, when former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie

announced he was dropping out of the race and got caught on a hot mic saying this about

Nicky Haley. You know, and she's going to get smoked and you and I both know it. She's not up to this.

He also said that quote,

Desantis called me petrified before the audio appeared to cut out.

A judge is set to hear closing arguments in Donald Trump's

370 million dollar New York civil fraud trial today, but he probably won't be

hearing from the former president.

In a letter to both sides in the case, the judge says Trump had not agreed to conditions
