Some top Democratic circles are talking about Vice President Kamala Harris,

and who would be her running mate?

That's how certain a widening group of leading party officials,

operatives, and donors are that President Joe Biden's slow start to salvage his campaign just won't work

based on CNN's conversations with two dozen Democratic politicians and

operatives. Several close allies are skeptical

that he's up to the re-election campaign

he's pledged to stay in.

And as CNN's Brian Todd tells us,

even the presumptive Republican candidate

is taking notice.

In recent days Donald Trump and his MAGA surrogates have stepped up their attacks on Harris.

points out candidates usually don't do that unless they're worried about

their potential opponent. Harris and her staff though have deliberately

ignored most of the calls and texts coming their way,

remaining insistent on her support for Biden.

Close to 140 million people remain under heat alerts in the US. More than a dozen high temperature records

were either broken or tied yesterday as sweltering conditions are set to continue in the

west and south. And while that's happening, an extremely dangerous and unusually long heat wave is intensifying and spreading up the west coast.

Officials in California, Oregon, Washington State, Nevada, and Arizona are bracing for potential wildfires.
