Hi there from CNN, I'm Chris Debeau with the five things you need to know for Friday, January 5th.

President Joe Biden is heading to Pennsylvania today to jumpstart his 2024 campaign,

while former President Donald Trump hits the road in Iowa 10 days before the Republican

caucuses kick off. Biden's giving a speech to warn Americans about the

perils of a second Trump presidency and the threat he thinks maga extremism

could pose to democracy.

His speech comes the day before the third anniversary of the January 6th attacks on the Capitol.

And it's expected to sound something like this new ad the Biden campaign is running in seven battleground states.

Something dangerous happened in America. There's an extremist movement

that does not share the basic beliefs in our democracy.

All of us are being asked right now.

What will we do to maintain our democracy?

Trump will be in Iowa today seeking to shore up

his already strong support among Republicans ahead of the January 15th

Caucasus.

He's particularly eager to wrap up the GOP presidential nomination as soon as possible,
